NINA BEHIND THE SCENES
ON SET, THE VISUAL ARTIST JADE ROCHE CAPTURED THE ESSENCE OF NINA, THE ORIGINAL FRAGRANCE.
THROUGH THE LENSES OF JADE ROCHE
Could you please introduce yourself to us?
My name is Jade Roche, I’m a visual artist and consultant based in Paris and I grew up in the south of France in the 90s.
I mainly use photography and video in my work, as well as graphic design and 3D in Augmented Reality. I love changing / crossing mediums and trying new ones but I always end up going back to photo and video because what I like most in the end is documenting spontaneous scenes and details.
I just auto-edited a limited edition of 500 hybrid zines with stills from short videos I took in the south of France and 78 sudoku grids! It's called "Tout le monde mérite de vivre en vacances" (Everyone deserves to live on vacation).
"When I first hold the bottle, smelled the perfume, I felt like I knew it already. The collision of nature and the modern world again!"
How did you start exploring 3D and motion design?
I had always wanted to learn 3D but never had an actual use for it until I started experimenting with Augmented Reality. It became necessary so I could have more creative options. But I don’t like how « heavy » building 3D is so i’m actually more into 2D design, i’m having more fun.
What are the very first things you produced? Can you show us?
The first things I ever produced was cheap graphic design for my Skyblogs (i was honored Skyblog Star in 2009……. ) and layout coding for my Myspace. I then had my first camera and was shooting anything I found interesting. I also shot a spontaneous fan music video with a friend using that camera, edited and published it on youtube in 2007 and it somehow got a lot of views at the time.
I had another one ready to publish a few weeks later but never published it nor anything else after that on that account. It all makes perfect sense with what I do today! I don’t have any archives sadly, though…
How were you inspired by Nina Clean fragrance? Its scent, its bottle, the symbol of the apple?
I had never had the perfume but I saw the ad on tv so many times in my teenage years that when I first hold the bottle, smelled the perfume, I felt like I knew it already. I also like that it’s an apple bottle. The collision of nature and the modern world again!!!!!!!
When did you start doing photography?
I started taking pictures at the end of high school with a friend’s compact camera and I got my own a few months later. On my first year of college, I could finally afford to buy an entry level SLR camera that i would carry everyday in my bag so I could document anything that caught my eye, which was pretty much everything around me at that time. I did that for a couple years. I actually still do this but I now would NOT carry an SLR camera anywhere as it’s too big and heavy. I learned that i didn’t care much about technical quality.
"I love the excitement that comes with an idea, the endless possibilities."
If you had to create a unique digital and natural world, how would it look like?
I have no idea. All I know is I would create a replica of planet earth because we love planet earth. With lots of fruit trees!!!
The geekiest part of your personality?
Maybe getting absorbed by some new random subject every once in a while and exploring it until I get bored and get absorbed by another. Lately I've been into insects and how they influence design in fashion, architecture, art, etc. I’ve been generating my own insects using AI (Artificial Intelligence) these past few days, building my lil collection.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is being able to take the time to explore new grounds and ideas. I love the excitement that comes with an idea, the endless possibilities.
